Valhalla Dash
Valhalla Dash is a lightweight, pixel-art endless runner that aims to blend the classic physics of Super Mario Bros, with a gritty, Norse-inspired aesthetic. Built specifically for high-performance browser play, it’s designed to run smoothly on any machine—from high-end rigs to "potato" laptops.
Core Gameplay
- The Run: Dash through an infinitely generating landscape. Jump over treacherous pitfalls and dodge obstacles to keep your momentum.
- Combat: Direct engagement is key. Jump on the heads of invading enemies and rival warriors to defeat them, or navigate carefully to avoid losing one of your lives.
- Progression: Collect gold coins to fuel your journey. As you progress, your Viking’s stats (speed, etc.) scale dynamically, making the game faster and more intense the longer you survive.
- Life & Respawn: Falling or hitting an enemy costs a life. A quick respawn system keeps you in the action until your lives are spent, after which you return to the start to try for a new high score.
Technical Features
- Performance First: Coded in raw HTML/JS for maximum efficiency. Whether you’re on a 144Hz monitor or an older browser, the frame rate remains solid.
- Visual Depth: Features a multi-layered parallax background—watch the distant mountains and drifting clouds move in sync with your sprint, providing a sense of scale to the pixelated world. As with any other textures and images, the background is easily changeable, by default it is a lower quality image set for performance in mind.
- Privacy & Offline Play: Your data stays yours. The local leaderboard is stored on your machine, and the game is fully functional offline—no data sharing, no tracking.
- Simple Scaling: If for some reason the scaling of the game is not the best for your device or eyes, there are but a few lines in the files you can tweak to adjust this, look for the SCALE values in multiple files, this should adjust most of the game, but if you need to make additional tweaks see Modder's Playground below.
- Modder’s Playground: Built with an open architecture. You can easily swap textures, tweak gravity, adjust enemy spawn rates, or overhaul the stat system by editing simple configuration files. The game was built in mind of modding and changing things with ease, from changing the characters, their height, width, speed, and more, to changing the ground textures, even with minimum coding knowledge anyone can easily open one of the files and make some tweaks.
Current Status
The game is currently in early development. While the foundation of the movement and the parallax engine is near complete, new biomes, enemy types, and audio files are being forged in the fires of the development forge.
Inspired by games such as Super Mario Bros, Dead Cells, and more.
